Complementary Therapies

What are Complementary Therapies?

Complementary therapies work with the person as a whole, treating the person on a physical and emotional level. Complementary therapies may help you feel better, give you a sense of control over what is happening to you and reduce stress, tension, sleeplessness, anxiety and depression, and make you feel more relaxed.

You can receive complementary therapy treatments either at one of our outreach Time Out groups or on a 1:1 basis at Helen Webb House. If you are currently undergoing any medical treatment, you will need to obtain consent from your GP before you can receive such therapy. Below are a few that are available (list not exhaustive)

Aromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy Massage is a treatment using essential oils. These are concentrated plant extracts, and each of the oils has unique properties that can be used to enhance well-being, relieve stress and promote good health within the body. One of the main ways of using oils is through massage. Aromatherapy Massage is gentle and soothing.

Reiki

‘Reiki’ means ‘universal life energy’. Every living thing has energy and a Reiki therapist has been trained to allow this energy to flow through them and out of their hands to a client. A Reiki treatment is a gentle therapy; the therapist will gently tough the clothed client, starting at the head and will gradually work over the body. Reiki can also be given without touchingĀ if appropriate. Most people find Reiki very relaxing for the mind and the body.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a therapy that involves working areas of the hands or feet that correspond to every part of the body. Working these reflexes promotes relaxation, improves circulation and helps the body’s own natural healing systems. It can help with the management of pain, nausea and vomiting, constipation, headaches and migraines, poor sleeping and anxiety.

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage is a relaxing massage of the upper back, shoulders, arms, neck, scalp and face. This treatment can help with the management of stress and anxiety, relief from neck and shoulder pain and tension, help alleviate eye strain, sinus congestion and insomnia.
